Network Rail are inviting people to comment on plans to close three level crossings in Oxfordshire to improve safety and increase capacity on the railway. The consultation runs from 5 June to 17 July with a number of drop in sessions.
They propose to close the crossings at Sandy Lane, Tackley and Yarnton by the end of 2024 and install footbridges. Sandy Lane will be ramped to allow cycling across. Yarnton will be crossable by cyclists pushing their bikes. Vehicular access between Yarnton and Kidlington along Sandy Lane will be lost.
They say the that "Closing the three crossings would also allow us to provide capacity for an additional two freight trains per hour, additional Birmingham to Oxford services, increased maintenance access and safety improvements".
This consultation does not seem to have been very well publicised. We thought you might be interested to learn that it is running.
