Green spaces threatened

Many of the fields around Kidlington have been put forward for possible housing.

Notably a vast area behind the Moors and  the fields owned by Pye Homes between Webbs Way/ the Spindlers.

While Cherwell have not included these in the current Local Plan developers will be pressing to change this. Our remaining Green Belt is still under threat of development

A football stadium and retail complex at Stratfield?

As if this was not enough, Oxford United FC are hoping to build a massive stadium and commercial complex in the remaining Green Belt.  They are negotiating with the Country Council to lease the land at Stratfield Brake plus the triangle of land opposite. (Jan 2022)

Cherwell chose to allocate land to take 4,400 houses (to meet Oxfords' housing need) as close to the City as possible.  Their recent  Local Plan Review removed a large part of the land separating Kidlington from Oxford City. The land between Bicester Road and the A34 through Gosford Farm up to the Sainsbury's roundabout is to be developed along with Stratfield Farm. Begbroke and Yarnton will to all intents merge and the University plans to massively extend development around the science park.

Alongside this, Network Rail are looking to close Sandy Lane to motorised traffic.

Other sites for development include the North Oxford golf course and the land between Water Eaton and Cutteslowe. The development noose will be completed by the controversial plans to build the northern gateway complex at peartree.

Begbroke and Yarnton

Most of the fields between Begbroke, Yarnton and Kidlington have been put forward for possible housing. Begbroke and Yarnton will be separated only by a small gap following the stream. These photographs show what we stand to lose .
